Regional Economic Strategy <br /> The Puget Sound Regional Council has drafted a new regional economic strategy called "Amazing Place: Growing jobs and <br /> opportunity in the central Puget Sound region". See their website at https://www.psrc.org/our-work/regional-economic-strategy. <br /> The strategy includes the following goals and strategies: <br /> Goal: Compete globally <br /> Strategies: Increase higher education capacity to expand high demand programs and foster world class research; Sustain and grow <br /> commercial air travel connections domestically and globally; Preserve, protect, and support industrial centers, military installations, <br /> and maritime sites; Build up and sustain ports and other infrastructure to support trade and logistics; Support and promote <br /> international trade; Strengthen, coordinate, and grow retention, expansion, and recruitment efforts; Continuously improve the <br /> business climate; Maintain and grow incentives for industry competitiveness; Sustain and evolve the conditions necessary for <br /> innovation <br /> Goal: Open economic opportunities for everyone <br /> Strategies: Provide adequate support for basic education for all; Coordinate programs in education and training to address <br /> workforce gaps and advance economic opportunity; Encourage economic growth across all parts of the region;Advance economic <br /> development within rural communities; Support women and minority-owned, disadvantaged businesses <br /> Goal: Sustain a high quality of life <br /> Strategies: Improve the region's transportation system; Ensure a diversity of housing stock that is affordable and connected to jobs; <br /> Focus new growth in urban areas, regional centers, and cities; Invest in pre-K through 12 education systems that produce, attract, <br /> and inspire world class talent; Embrace, celebrate, and promote the diversity of the region's people; Ensure an outstanding and <br /> healthy natural environment; Preserve, enhance, and improve access to open space; Grow access to arts, culture, entertainment, <br /> and sports <br /> Chapter 9,Economic Opportunities 3 August 29,2018 <br />
