The equipment I'm requesting permitting for exceeds code by more than 15%.Tables 403.2.3(1)and 403.2.3(2)does not specifically
list Ductless heat pumps(they do list VRF systems-which are similar-but can heat and cool at the same time using one compressor
unit)so the closest to it is standard heat pumps-with a minimum efficiency of 14. Per submitted AHRI sheet this unit, using ductless
heads is rated at @17%above the requirement.
Section C503.4 the 2nd exemption for existing structures allows that an alternate design may be approved in situation where full
compliance is impracticable. While other system can be installed (at a higher energy cost, higher customer cost, adding ductwork,
cutting structure and etc.)they would be less efficient. The 3rd exemption for small equipment(under 33,000Btu/h)discusses high
efficiency split systems serving one zone(this is all, under one roof and one floor with interconnected doors)that exceed code by
15%-once again using the non-specific"Heat pump under 65,000 Btu/h" as my guide.
Because the code does not specifically list this type of equipment I believe it falls under and"innovative approach"that achieves the
increase in efficiency.
Noted codes are attached.
SNOPUD is incentivizing this install for a$800 per ton rebate for high efficiency-without an economizer.
Let me know your thoughts-thanks.
Mark Payne
Commercial Energy Consultant
Essmwa.com
2120 Pacific Avenue
Everett,WA.98201
Office:(425)252-3114 Fax: (425) 259-6660 http://www.essmwa.com
Original Message
From:ricohscanner@essmwa.com [mailto:ricohscanner@essmwa.com]
Sent:Wednesday,January 04,2017 10:26 AM
To:Mark Payne
Subject:Message from "RNP002673378A1D"
This E-mail was sent from "RNP002673378A1D"(Aficio MP C3501).
Scan Date:01.04.2017 10:25:32(-0800)
Queries to:ricohscanner@essmwa.com
ti2
