. •ORDINANCE• <br /> NO. ,49-0 - -2 7 <br /> AN ORDINANCE providing for the levy and collection <br /> of excise taxes pursuant to Chapter 35.95 of the Revised <br /> Code of Washington upon persons within the City of Everett; <br /> limiting the use of the proceeds therefrom to the operation, <br /> maintenance, and capital needs of the Everett Transit <br /> 1 System; amending Section 2 of Ordinance No. 45-69 of the <br /> City of Everett, and declaring an emergency to exist. <br /> 2 <br /> 3 <br /> 4 Section 1 : Section 2 of Ordinance No. 45-69 reads as follows: <br /> 5 "Beginning with the month of January 1 , 1975, there is hereby levied <br /> 6 upon all persons within the City of Everett who are served and billed <br /> by the City for any one or more public utility services owned and <br /> operated by the City excise taxes in the amounts and in the manner as <br /> 7 follows: <br /> 8 A. On each person for each housing unit involved the <br /> 9 sum of $0.75 per month. Where any structure, building, <br /> or portion thereof contains one or more housing units <br /> 10 involved and the occupants or tenants thereof are not <br /> billed for any public utility services furnished by the <br /> 11 City to such unit or units, the person who is billed for <br /> such service or services shall be deemed to be served and <br /> 12 billed therefor, and shall be billed and pay the monthly <br /> excise tax as herein levied and provided for on each and <br /> 13 every housing unit or units; provided, however, such <br /> amount so billed and collected shall not exceed 90% of <br /> the total excise tax as above provided for and levied for <br /> 14 such housing unit or units, which is the average percentage <br /> of occupancy in housing units within the City of Everett. <br /> 15 <br /> 16 B. On each person for each commercial unit involved the <br /> sum of $0.75 per month. Where any structure, building, <br /> or portion thereof contains one or more commercial units <br /> 17 involved and the occupants or tenants thereof are not <br /> billed for any public utility services furnished by the <br /> 18 City to such unit or units, the person who is billed for <br /> such service or services shall be deemed to be served and <br /> 19 billed therefor, and shall be billed and pay the monthly <br /> excise tax as herein levied and provided for on each and <br /> 20 every such commercial unit or units; provided, however, <br /> such amount so billed and collected shall not exceed 90% <br /> 21 of the total excise tax as above provided for and levied <br /> for such housing unit or units, which is the average per- <br /> 22 centage of occupancy in commercial units within the <br /> City of Everett. <br /> 23 <br /> C. On each person having employees the sum of $0.25 per <br /> 24 employee per month; provided, however, that the total sum <br /> payable by each person having employees shall not exceed <br /> 25 $2,500.00 per month. <br /> 26 In the event that any person shall be subjected to more than one <br /> levy of the excise tax under the definitions and provisions hereinabove <br /> 27 set forth in this section, such person shall be liable for only one excise <br /> tax levy, which shall be the highest tax levy for which he could be held <br /> 28 liable. <br /> 29 <br /> 30 <br /> 31 <br /> 32 <br />
