To: Rick Robinson, Assistant Pire Marshal City of Gverett
From: Mark Studer, Martin Senour/Sherwin Willinms/NAPA
Rc: Hvercri NAPA Retuil Paint Department
lii Rick,
Jamilry 9, 2009
1'( Uc:'
NAPA Auto Parts would like tu continuc mixing automotive paint at ow proposed new
retail sales location. In the past we have sold paint products, but have never carried much
of an inventory.
Ovcr the years we have addcd paint to NAI'A stores in Spokane. 'facoma, Vancouver,
Kenncwick, Ridiland and Seattle. We have alwuys worked with thc local Pirc Marshal to
makc sure wc are on the satne page as far as the Intcrntional Fire Codc 200G, and Uiat
we stay under the "M:ucimum Allowable Quntities" as stated in lhe Code.
As far us the mixing syslem is concemed we would like to have threc units that tiould not
exceed the mucimum allowable quuntity as indicated on "I'able 2703.1.1(1) under the
heading of"use-closed sy,tems" for I B-lC liquids o(' 120 Gallons as rcferenced by
3405.3.5. L(See Attachad). Of course all mixing lids will mect the definition of 2702.1
Closed Container. "A container sealed by means of a lid or other device such that liquid
vapor or dusts will not escape from it ander ordinary conditions of use or handling".
With the addition of the mixing system we would like to increase our inventory to
support the program. Under 3404.3.4.1 Maimum allowable quaruity per control area in
paragraplt 2"For Group M occupancy wholesale and .retail sales uses, indoor storage of
flammable and combustible liquids shalf not excecd che maximum allowahlc quaitities
per control ar:a indicated in Table 3404.3.4.1." (Sce Attached) Table 3404.3.4.1
Maximum allowable quantity per control area of flammable and combustible liquids in
wholesale ani retail sales occupancies ndicates that Class 1 B, 1 C, i1, and IIIA in a
nonsprinklered building cannot ezceed 1,600 gallons. With the current mindset ofour
business, it has been our goal of reducing opereting inventories to much lower levels than
in years past. We envision approximately 500 to 550 total gallons of inventory to support
our venture.
This portion of the store would be similar to WBSCO and Shenvin-Williams which have
branches in your jurisdiction, only it would be on a generally smaller scale. It is our hope
to satisfy the requirements of the IPC ''006 and the City of Everett, as we mo, P forward
in this specialty market.
Sincerely
Mark Studcr
Martin Senour/NAPA
