10111P - Ordinance# 3628-18 AN ORDINANCE amending Planning& Community Development Department 021,to be entitled Community, Planning, and Economic Development, to account for all transactions relating to the operations of the Community, Planning and Economic Development Department. WHEREAS, community development is essential to building an engaged population that is active in civic matters, celebrates and welcomes diversity, has concern for the welfare its neighbors, and engenders optimism in the future of the City of Everett; and WHEREAS, planning activities, through the Zoning Code and Comprehensive Plan, establish sensible rules for land use that create a livable direction for the location and density of development, while protecting the City's natural resources; and WHEREAS, economic development creates places where people want to invest, work and live. Through its initiatives,connections are made between individuals, companies, institutions, and communities to generate family wage jobs, promote a sense of vitality, and ensure that resources will be available to fund the essential public services necessary to meet the needs of the City's growing population; and WHEREAS, community, planning, and economic develop activities are fundamentally interconnected and, together, provide a framework that both protects and enhances the quality of life in Everett; and WHEREAS, consolidating community, planning, and economic development in one department will ensure that these functions are aligned and moving in a common direction, which will improve operational efficiencies and effectiveness; NOW,THEREFORE,THE CITY OF EVERETT DOES ORDAIN: Section 1: Department 021 of the general fund is hereby revised, and shall be entitled "Community, Planning, and Economic Development" to account for all transactions relating to the activities of the Community, Planning, and Economic Development Department. Section 2: Authorization is hereby given to accumulate costs and distribute payments from Department 021 of the general fund for the activities of the Community, Planning and Economic Development Department.
