I
1 I
2 HMA plant mix shall not be placed until 3 days after the cement concrete base has
3 been placed or otherwise permitted by the Engineer. The HMA plant mix shall not
4 be placed until the concrete base has received a tack coat of CRS-2 at a rate of 0.12
5 to 0.20 gallons per square yard. The edges of the existing asphalt and castings shall
6 also be painted with the tack coat. The HMA pavement shall then be placed, leveled,
7 and compacted to conform to the surface of the existing HMA. Immediately
I
8 thereafter, all joints between the new and original asphalt pavement shall be painted
9 with CSS-1 asphalt emulsion and covered with dry sand before the asphalt solidifies.
10 '11 Asphalt shall be compacted to 92% of maximum density as determined by WSDOT
12 Test Method 705.
13
I
14 5-06.3(4) HMA on Granular Base
15
16 After the Crushed Surfacing Top Course subgrade has been leveled and compacted,
17 HMA Class 1/2" Page 64-22 shall be placed to a thickness of 1" greater than the
18 existing asphalt pavement depth or to a minimum of 3", whichever is greater. Asphalt
19 shall be compacted to 92% of maximum density as determined by WSDOT Test
20 Method 705.
21
22 5-06.3(5) Untreated Roadway Surfaces
23
24 Existing crushed rock, gravel, and oil mat streets shall be restored with Crushed
25 Surfacing Top Course to a compacted depth of 4"within the neat lines of the trench.
26 Crushed surfacing shall be mixed, placed, spread and shaped in accordance with I
27 the requirements of Section 4-04 of the Standard Specifications.
28
29 5-06.3(6) Temporary Pavement Patching
111
30
31 The Contractor shall furnish, place and maintain temporary pavement patching, at
32 locations as directed by the Engineer, until such time as a permanent patch of
I
33 permanent paving can be made.
34
35 Temporary pavement patch shall consist of a 2"thick course of cold mix asphalt (MC
36 250) over a 4" course of Crushed Surfacing Top Course. The crushed surfacing top
37 course shall be compacted to 95% maximum density as determined by WSDOT test
38 method No. 606. Asphalt shall be compacted to 90% of maximum density as
39 determined by WSDOT Test Method 705.
40
41 Temporary asphalt patching shall be required where roadway or walk is needed for
42 vehicular or pedestrian traffic, during the construction period, until permanent
43 pavement and sidewalks can be constructed.
44
45 In the event that the temporary surface subsides after the initial placement, additional
46 MC 250 and crushed surfacing shall be applied to maintain the surface.
47
48 Stockpile of plant mix and crushed surfacing for temporary patching shall be
49 provided on the site by the Contractor.
50
i
N.
