I <br /> I1 <br /> 2 Where existing steel reinforcing bars inside deck repair areas show deterioration greater <br /> I 3 than 20-percent section loss, the Contractor shall furnish and place steel reinforcing bars <br /> 4 alongside the deteriorated bars in accordance with the details shown in the Standard <br /> 5 Plans. <br /> I 6 <br /> 7 The last paragraph is deleted. <br /> 8 <br /> 9 6-09.3(7) Surface Preparation for Concrete Overlay <br /> I10 The first seven paragraphs are deleted and replaced with the following: <br /> 11 <br /> 12 Following the completion of any required further deck preparation the entire lane or strip <br /> I13 being overlaid shall be cleaned to be free from oil and grease, rust and other foreign <br /> 14 material that may still be present. These materials shall be removed by detergent- <br /> 15 cleaning or other method accepted by the Engineer followed by sandblasting. <br /> I 16 <br /> 17 After detergent cleaning and sandblasting is completed, the entire lane or strip being <br /> 18 overlaid shall be swept clean in final preparation for placing concrete using either <br /> I19 compressed air or vacuum machines. <br /> 20 <br /> 21 Hand tool chipping, sandblasting and cleaning in areas adjacent to a lane or strip being <br /> I <br /> 22 <br /> 23 cleaned in final preparation for placing concrete shall be discontinued when final <br /> preparation is begun. Scarifying and hand tool chipping shall remain suspended until the <br /> 24 concrete has been placed and the requirement for curing time has been satisfied. <br /> 25 Sandblasting and cleaning shall remain suspended for the first 24 hours of curing time <br /> I 26 after the completion of concrete placing. <br /> 27 <br /> 28 Scarification, and removal of the upper layer of concrete overlay when present, may <br /> 29 proceed during the final cleaning and overlay placement phases of the Work on adjacent <br /> 30 portions of the Structure so long as the scarification and concrete overlay removal <br /> 31 operations are confined to areas which are a minimum of 100 feet away from the defined <br /> I 32 limits of the final cleaning or overlay placement in progress. If the scarification and <br /> 33 concrete overlay removal impedes or interferes in any way with the final cleaning or <br /> 34 overlay placement as determined by the Engineer, the scarification and concrete overlay <br /> I 35 removal Work shall be terminated immediately and the scarification and concrete overlay <br /> 36 removal equipment removed sufficiently away from the area being prepared or overlaid <br /> 37 to eliminate the conflict. If the grade is such that water and contaminants from the <br /> I 38 scarification and concrete overlay removal operation will flow into the area being prepared <br /> 39 or overlaid, the scarification and concrete overlay removal operation shall be terminated <br /> 40 and shall remain suspended for the first 24 hours of curing time after the completion of <br /> I41 concrete placement. <br /> 42 <br /> 43 6-09.3(12) Finishing Concrete Overlay <br /> 44 The third paragraph is deleted. <br /> I <br /> 45 <br /> 46 The last paragraph is deleted. <br /> 47 <br /> I <br /> 48 6-09.3(13) Curing Concrete Overlay <br /> 49 The first sentence of the first paragraph is revised to read: <br /> 50 <br /> i <br /> I <br />
