I
1 c. The slurry removed from the shaft shall be contained in a leak proof cell or
2 tank for a minimum of 3 hours.
3
4 d. The infiltration rate shall be reduced if needed to prevent wastewater from
5 leaving the infiltration location. The infiltration site shall be monitored
6 regularly during infiltration activity. All wastewater discharged to the ground
7 shall fully infiltrate and discharges shall stop before the end of each work
8 day.
9
10 e. Drilling spoils and settled sediments remaining in the containment cell or
11 tank shall be disposed of in accordance with Section 6-19.3(4)F.
12
13 f. Infiltration locations shall be in upland areas at least 150 feet away from111
14 surface waters, wells, on-site sewage systems, aquifer sensitive recharge
15 areas, sole source aquifers, well head protection areas, and shall be
16 marked on the plan sheets before the infiltration activity begins.
17
18 g. Prior to infiltration, the Contractor shall submit a Shaft Drilling Slurry
19 Wastewater Management and Infiltration Plan as a Type 2 Working
20 Drawing. This Plan shall be kept on-site, adapted if needed to meet the
21 construction requirements, and updated to reflect what is being done in the
22 field. The Working Drawing shall include, at a minimum, the following
23 information: •
24
25 i. Plan sheet showing the proposed infiltration location and all surface
26 waters, wells, on-site sewage systems, aquifer-sensitive recharge
27 areas, sole source aquifers, and well-head protection areas within 150
28 feet.
29
30 ii. The proposed elevation of soil surface receiving the wastewater for
31 infiltration and the anticipated phreatic surface (i.e., saturated soil).
32
33 iii. The source of the water used to produce the slurry.
34
35 iv. The estimated total volume of wastewater to be infiltrated.
36
37 v. The accepted flocculant to be used (if any).
38
39 vi. The controls or methods used to prevent surface wastewater runoff
40 from leaving the infiltration location.
41
42 vii. The strategy for removing slurry wastewater from the shaft and
43 containing the slurry wastewater once it has been removed from the
44 shaft.
45
46 viii. The strategy for monitoring infiltration activity and adapting methods to
47 ensure compliance.
48
49 ix. A contingency plan that can be implemented immediately if it becomes
50 evident that the controls in place or methods being used are not
51 adequate.
1
