City Of Everett <br /> Page 2 <br /> We also have some other activities coming up: <br /> • Hosting a training for dentists on opioid use disorder. <br /> • Developing a burden of disease model that will report the number of Snohomish County residents abusing <br /> or misusing opioids. <br /> • Hosting a conference in early-2019 for maternal-child health professionals addressing the many facets that <br /> the opioid epidemic brings. <br /> • Working with local providers and pharmacies to get more opioid awareness out to patients,as well as <br /> easier access to locking medicine bottles, bags,and boxes. <br /> HEALTH DISTRICT INFRASTRUCTURE <br /> One of the key practices of a chief health strategist is to utilize state-of-the-art business practices. We have made <br /> several improvements this year including: <br /> • Increased convenience for residents and business through new online services for applying for permits, <br /> submitting complaints, and requesting birth and death certificates. <br /> • Contracted with Snohomish County for IT services to provide increased capabilities and security. <br /> • Implemented NeoGov platform for streamlined recruiting and human resources functionality. <br /> • Launched NovusAgenda for board and committee packets, allowing for greater transparency with the <br /> public and stakeholders. <br /> • Contracted with Code Publishing to develop a searchable and user-friendly online version of our code for <br /> easy access for the public and employees. <br /> • Invested in an online Learning Management System that will be utilized for community trainings in the <br /> future. <br /> Launching by year-end are: <br /> • A new website and enhanced communication channels in November. <br /> • A new financial system that will allow for more robust and reliable reporting options. <br /> ACCREDITATION <br /> Last year,the Health District began its pursuit of national accreditation through the Public Health Accreditation <br /> Board (PHAB).A significant component is the launch of our Building a Culture of Quality Plan (fact sheet attached) <br /> that includes: <br /> 1. Performance management, quality improvement, and workforce development systems <br /> 2. Community Health Assessment(to be completed December 2018) <br /> 3. Community Health Improvement Plan (to be completed May 2019) <br /> 4. Strategic Plan (to be completed September 2019). <br /> FOUNDATIONAL PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICES(FPHS) <br /> The Washington State Legislature made an initial investment of$12 million for foundational public health services <br /> in the 2017-2019 biennium, representing a one-time, partial restoration of cuts to public health services that were <br /> made during the Great Recession. <br /> The Health District used a portion of those dollars to bolster its prevention,tracking and response efforts centered <br /> on sexually transmitted infections—in many cases, higher than the state average—including new partnerships <br /> with local military installations and tribal nations.This firing also allowed the Health District and its partners to <br /> quickly respond,contain, and stop a measles outbreak earlier this year before it spread to the community. <br />
