MAHONEY & WEBER
•'111 •. ,; '•IIU u. 1111IA1 IIIN'.1111II IRlL 1.IP:IryiI1P. ,
March 24, 1972
Gentlemen: Report of Soils Investigation
Proposed Arcweld Facility for
Everett Pipe and Steel Co.
Everett Washington
This report presents the results of our soils investigation for
the proposed &-jcwA_-bcL Facility at the site of Everett Pipe and Steel Company's
plant in Everett, Washington. The building is located close to the inter-
section of 33rd Street and Hill Avenue in Everett, Wash }gto`aT)le new
construction will consist of a steel frame mill building 9' x 8' in plan
dimension with a 200' continuation of the crane rail structure extending to
the north.
The sub -surface conditions at this site were explored by means
of two test pits excavated in tlue positions shown on the attached plot plan.
These test pits revealed that the level yard area, which will contain the pro-
posed building, is underlain by one to two feet of a slag type fill containing
sand and gravel. This is in turn underlain by a stiff clay deposit which extends
to at least S feet below the ground surface. No ground water was encountered
In the test pits excavated at this site.
The general character of the sub -surface conditions around the
site area was assessed by conversations with the plant personnel regarding
building performance, personal observation of the performance of floor slabs
and footing -supported structures and a visit to a nearby construction site
to view the sub -surface materials and foundation type used there. All the
factors investigated indicate that the site is underlayed by a competent
foundation soil of uniform extent, which will provide adequate bearing for
shallow foundations.,,..
1 •'I,I aI•.II A hI AV Nnl 11 I I••.I A l 111 WAO IIN.f 11 Ih .
