I have also
attached two complete sets of drawings reflecting the corrections requested.
1 . Room number 667 was designed to be a corridor with amenities in lieu of the
interpretetion of a room. It maintains an 8'-0" clear width in compliance with
sec. 3320 ICI.
A Transitional Care Unit is unique from other I occupancy uses in that it is
designed to prepare a patient (i.e. hip replacement, minor stroke, injured
elderly patient) to be able to take care of themselves in their home
environment. Patients move here for an average of 5 - 6 days from the med-
surgical units prior to going home.
Most are reestablishing self confidence in their abiliry to walk and can only go
an incrementally increasing distance. This necessitates the benches in the
corridors throughout.
We believe the use of the garden room is consistent with the corridor
definition with added visual stimulations or the "Healing Environment". This
environment has proven benefits in softening the space and mindset.
It is not a 'waiting room" in that patients and families do not have a need to
'wait". To enclose this space would jeopardize the safety of the occupants
because they have iimited mobility and possibly limited communication skills.
Should a fire occur they could go unnoticed behind closed doors. I believe this
philosophy applies to patient rooms in the provision for no door closers. •
If we construct a room without door closers it would appear to have no
additional benefit beyond the existing configuration. Please reconsider this
space as a corridor with 1-Hour walls at each side.
4206 Hoyt Avenue • Everett, Washington 98203 • 206/259-0868 • 206/774-3341 • FAX 206/252-4334
