G'J
Six Robblees, inc.
3531 Paine Avenue
Everett,Washington 98201
Attn: Tom Davis
Re: Subgrade Observation
New Building Expansion
3531 Paie Avenue
Everett, Washington
Dear Mr. Davis:
GeoTest Services was at the above site to observe ihe subgrade within the fuctprint of
the proposed approximately 3,700 square foot building expansion to be located along
the north side of the existing Six Robblees building.
Three test pits were excavated with the northeast, northcentral and southwest portions
of the proposed structure. Subsurface conditions were consisted of approximately 12
inches of soft topsoil, organics and construction debris overlying gray, medium dense,
silty to very silty, fine to medium grained sand (weathered glacial till). The weathered till
layer was approximateiy 8 to 12 inches in lhickness. UnderiVing ihe eveathered till, tan
and brown, denselhard, very silty sandlvery sandy silt (unweathered glacial till) was
encountered for the full depths explored.
GeoTest Services recommends removal of the unsuitable topsoil/debris layer within the
footprint of the building. Foundation elements for the proposed structure may be placed
upon either the weathered or unwealhered till in order to achieve lhe required 1,500
pounds per square foot bearing capacity required. It should be noted that the silty sand
weathered till is hiyhly moisture sensitive and depending upon weather conditions, may
degrade due to a combination of increased moisture and vibrations caused by
equipment traffic. If this occurs, the soil with either need to be dried out or replaced with
structural fili.
It is our understanding the decision has been made to place the foundation elements for
the structure on the weathered till. Import structural fili will be place under+he iloor slab
area and compacted on the weathered tili in order to raise site grades to the design
elevation of the vapor barrier and 4 inch thick concrete slab.
LIMITATIONS
We must presume the subsurtace conditions encountered are representative for the
proposed site for the purposes of formuiating our recommendations. However, you
stiould be aware that subsurface conditions may vary with time and between exploratory
cations, and unanticipated conditions may be encountered.
