DEFINITIONS AND STANDARDS
010900 - 5
4. DRAWING SYMBOLS
4.1. General: Except as otherwise indicated, graphic symbols used on the drawings
are those symbols recognized in the construction industry for purposes indicated.
4.2. Mechanical/Electrical Drawings: Graphic symbols used on mechanical/electrical
drawings are generally aligned with symbols recommended by ASHRAE. Where
appropriate, these symbols are supplemented by more specific symbols as
recommended by other technical associations including ASME, ASPE, IEEE and
similar organizations. Refer instances of uncertainty to the Architect/Engineer for
clarification before proceeding.
5. INDUSTRY STANDARDS
5.1. Applicability of Standards: Except where more explicit or stringent requirements
are written into the contract documents, applicable construction industry standards
have the same force and effect as if bound in to or copied directly into the contract
documents. Such industry standards are made a part of the contract documents by
reference. Individual specification sections indicate which codes and standards
the Contractor must keep available at the project site for reference.
1. Referenced standards: Standards referenced directly in the contract
documents take precedence over non-referenced standards that are
recognized in the industry for applicability to the Work.
2. Non-referenced standards: Except as otherwise limited by the contract
documents, non-referenced standards recognized in the construction
industry are defined as having direct applicability to the Work and will be
enforced for the performance of the Work. The decision as to whether an
industry code or standard is applicable to the Work, or as to which of
several standards are applicable, is the sole responsibility of the Architect/
Engineer.
5.2. Publication Dates: Except as otherwise indicated, where compliance with an '
industry standard is required, comply with standard in effect as of date of contract
documents.
1. Updated Standards: At the request of the Architect/Engineer, Contractor
or governing authority, submit a change order proposal where an
applicable industry code or standard has been revised and reissued after
the date of the contract documents and before the performance of the work
affected. The Architect/Engineer will decide whether to issue the change
order to proceed with the updated standard.
02/19/13
