GeoDesign recommended that the material be removed down to
firm and unyielding material and replaced with a clean crushed rock material. Today, GeoDesign noted that the loose
material in the northwest corner had been over-excavated approximately 1.5 to 2.0 feet down to firm and unyielding
material. GeoDesign noted that the loose material along the north side appeared to extend farther to the east, with some
saturated material yielding underfoot.
GeoDesign notified the client and contractor that the over-excavated area was currently suitable for placement of backfill
material and recommended that the loose and saturated material which continued to the east be over-excavated down to
firm and unyielding material and replaced with a clean crushed rock material.
LOT 251:
Previously, noted loose and saturated material which could be probed approximately 8-12 inches in the southeast corner of
the foundation area and approximately 3 inches of surficially loose and saturated material along the west perimeter of"the
foundation area. GeoDesign recommended that the material in these areas be removed down to firm and unyielding
material and replaced with a clean crushed rock material. Today, GeoDesign noted that DDS had over-excavated/cleaned
off the previously identified areas and backfilled the area with a clean angular crushed rock material tamped into a firm and
unyielding mass.
It is the opinion of GeoDesign that the exposed foundation subgrade for Lot 251 is currently suitable for support of the
intended structure. GeoDesign recommends that any surficially loose and saturated material that is generated be removed
from the base of foundations prior to the placement of concrete.
The client and contractor were notified of our observations and recommendations prior to our departure from the site today.
A summary of our observations can be found in the attached Figure 1.
This report presents opinions formed as a result of our observation of activities relating to geotechnical engineering or environmental services. We rely on the contractor to comply with the plans and
specifications throughout the duration of the project irrespective of the presence of our representative. Our work does not include supervision or direction of the contractor, the contractor's employees
or agents.
