I li a
GE 1DESIGN
45ob 51 s+ ve, S FIELD R
1 of 3
Project Name: Everett River Front-Simpson Report: 061
GeoDesign#: Polygon-127-03 Date: 07/21/2017
Reports with Unresolved Nonconformance Issues: Permit:
PW1505-005
Nick Abdelnour(Polygon) Randy Allen(City of Everett) Weather: Clear, 60-70's
Ron Bowen(Polygon) Eddy Stevens(Polygon) Arrival/Departure: 1100/1115
Distribution: -
Doug Ross(Polygon) Kirk Keck(City of Everett) 1345/1400
Paul McKee(City of Everett) Dave Foster(City of Everett) Prepared By: Ben Weinberg, EIT
✓❑ Site Plan(s) 0 Density Test Summary Signature: 4,;-.
Attachments: 0 Installation Records ✓❑ Other Reviewed By: RL
PURPOSE of VISIT: GeoDesign representative, Ben Weinberg, was on-site part time at the request of Leroy with BDZ to
observe foundation subgrade for Lots 250 and 251.
SUMMARY of OBSERVATIONS:
LOT 251:
Previously, GeoDesign noted that BDZ had over-excavated the Lot 251 area approximately 2-3 feet down to firm and
unyielding ground and partially backfilled the excavation with a cement treated soil.Today, GeoDesign noted that BDZ
completed filling the lot area to near plan bottom of footing using the previously mentioned cement treated material.
GeoDesign noted that the exposed fill material could generally be probed generally 1 inch during our afternoon visit.
It is the opinion of GeoDesign that the exposed foundation subgrade for Lot 251 is currently suitable for support of the
intended structure. GeoDesign recommends that any surficially loose and saturated material be removed from the base of
the footing area prior to the placement of concrete.
LOT 250:
Today, GeoDesign noted that BDZ had completed excavation of Lot 250 down to firm and unyielding material, which
required 2-3 feet of over-excavation, using a Komatsu PC300 excavator. GeoDesign noted that the exposed base of the
over-excavated area generally consisted of a gray-brown silty SAND with gravel which could be probed less than 2 inches
using a 1/2 inch diameter soil probe. After observing the base of the over-excavated area, GeoDesign notified Leroy with
BDZ that the over-excavated lot area was currently suitable for backfilling. GeoDesign noted that BDZ backfilled the
over-excavated area with a cement-treated gray-brow silty SAND (f-m)with gravel (f-c)which was previously above its
optimum moisture content. GeoDesign noted that the cement dust was added to stockpiles of material outside the
foundation area and thoroughly mixed using the bucket of an excavator. GeoDesign noted that the material was mixed,
placed, and spread in approximately 12-18 inch loose lifts using a Komatsu PC300 excavator and compacted into a firm
and unyielding mass using a Hamm 3410 smooth-drum vibratory roller. Penetration depths encountered shortly after
compaction for the first lift was less than 2 inches using a 1/2 inch diameter soil probe. The lot area was not completely
backfilled prior to our departure from the site today.
This report presents opinions formed as a result of our observation of activities relating to geotechnical engineering or environmental services. We rely on the contractor to comply with the plans and
specifications throughout the duration of the project irrespective of the presence of our representative. Our work does not include supervision or direction of the contractor, the contractor's employees
or agents. Our firm is not responsible for site safety. This field report is a DRAFT representation of our field observations, testing, and preliminary recommendations. The report can only be considered
final upon review of the GeoDesign project manager,as indicated by initials in the"Reviewed By"section.
10700 Meridian Avenue North,Suite 402 I Seattle,WA 98133 I 206.838.9900
2502 Jefferson Avenue I Tacoma,WA 98402 I 253.203.0095
