GeoDesign clearly marked the areas that were unsuitable for
support of the intended structure using orange spray paint. Polygon elected to remove the unsuitable material and replace
with structural fill. Polygon requested that GeoDesign observe a stockpile of on-site material to assess its suitability for use
as structural fill.
GeoDesign noted that the two stockpiles of material along the south perimeter of Phase 1 generally consisted of a
gray-brown silty SAND with gravel that appeared to be slightly above its optimum moisture content. In-place moisture
readings taken on the stockpiled material using a Troxler Moisture Density gauge indicated that the material was at a
moisture content ranging from 7.2%to 11.5%,with an average moisture content of approximately 10%. Based on our
previous experience with on-site material, it is our opinion that the stockpiles were currently suitable for use as structural fill
and should be able to achieve 95%relative compaction of its maximum dry density as determined by a Modified Proctor
analysis. GeoDesign emphasizes that the material stockpiles should be protected from precipitation to avoid the material
becoming unsuitable for use as structural fill.
A summary of our observations from today's site visit can be found in the attached Figure 1 and Photo Log.
GeoDesign notified the client of these observations and recommendations prior to our departure from the site today.
This report presents opinions formed as a result of our observation of activities relating to geotechnical engineering or environmental services,We rely on the contractor to comply with the plans and
specifications throughout the duration of the project irrespective of the presence of our representative. Our work does not include supervision or direction of the contractor, the contractor's employees
or agents.
