Ted Budden W I Co6 `3 --(,'Tj 1
To: Cynthia Keirsey
Subject: RE: Deteriorated wall and siding at 1709 Cedar Street,Inspection needed.
Cindy,
We conducted an inspection today of the exterior of the house located at 1709 Cedar St. as you requested.
Here is a summary of our observations.
The south east corner of the structure has missing wall sheathing and siding. Wall studs and interior gypsum wallboard
are exposed to the elements. This unprotected exposure of the structure has caused deterioration of building materials
at this location.
The deteriorated unprotected portion of the building has partially compromised the structural integrity of the structure
(floor joists, wall studs and plates.) The missing weather protection is also damaging interior elements of the structure.
A bathroom window at this location is broken with the glass completely missing. The bathroom ceiling at this location
was observed to be badly deteriorated even when viewed from the exterior through the broken window.
The decayed conditions will continue to deteriorate if repairs are not made.
These conditions are Unlawful as defined by code.
I support and encourage enforcement action to abate these conditions.
Thank you for the opportunity to provide assistance in this matter.
Regards
Ted Budden
Chief Inspector
Everett Building Department
425.257 7271
From: Cynthia Keirsey
Sent: Friday, February 26, 2016 11:56 AM
To:Ted Budden
Subject: Deteriorated wall and siding at 1709 Cedar Street, Inspection needed.
Ted,
I responded to the property at 1709 Cedar street yesterday and found that the back corner and back façade of the house
has missing and deteriorated siding. Both the house and garage have missing, chipping and peeling paint. I spoke to the
property owner Kelly Raulston today on the phone. He said the house was in bad shape when he purchased it and he
has not made the repairs. He said the bottom plate was deteriorated, the wall studs rotted and the foundation cracked.
He gave his permission for the building department to inspect the property from the exterior. He works at Boeing and is
not home to attend an inspection. I advised him that you would respond and you would probably leave an inspection
report if you note violations. It is best to enter the property from the rear by the alley. I let Mr. Ralston know that we
would work with him to bring the property into compliance. Please let me know the results of the inspection.
Cindy K
1
