It is our u ` 'j <br /> that the damage to the CMU wall was caused by the installation of a gas line for a new fi lace <br /> insert. <br /> APR 0 2 2D ) <br /> EXISTING BUILDING �µr <br /> The existing building is a one-story,"L"-shaped,single-family residence. The fireplace is CITY OF EV- RE + 1 <br /> shown in the aerial photograph of the site(see Photo 1). It was determined thatin addition o�thhe Service <br /> fireplace masonry wall self-weight,the CMU wall in the crawl space also supports the existing ceiling <br /> framing. Note that the CMU wall in the crawl space does not support the roof or floor framing. The <br /> openings in the roof and floor were framed with headers supporting the joists at the openings. <br /> OBSERVATIONS&RECOMMENDATIONS <br /> 1. Damaged CMU Fireplace Wall in Crawl Space The existing CMU wall in the crawl space that <br /> supports the fireplace was damaged during the installation of a gas line for a new fireplace <br /> insert(see Photo 2). Three CMU blocks were damaged and require replacement/repair. It is <br /> our recommendation that either all three CMU blocks be replaced with like kind(Option 1),that <br /> the block that had the most damage be replaced with likekind and the other two blocks that <br /> had minor damage be grouted to repair the damaged portions of the blocks,or that all three <br /> damaged blocks be fully grouted to repair the damaged portions(Option 3).
