While in <br /> Congress,Mr.Davis served on the Energy and Commerce Committee with jurisdiction over health, <br /> consumer protection,energy,telecommunications and electronic commerce,as well as the Federal <br /> Communications Commission(FCC),Federal Trade Commission (FTC),the Food and Drug <br /> Administration (FDA),the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS),and the Federal <br /> Energy Regulatory Commission(FERC). <br /> As a member of the health and telecommunication subcommittees,he helped write legislation <br /> reforming Medicaid regulation of nursing homes and FCC regulation of broadcasters.Mr. Davis also <br /> served as a member of the Energy and Commerce oversight subcommittee. <br /> In addition,Mr.Davis served on the Committee on International Relations and the Budget <br /> Committee.He was elected by his peers to be the president of the Democratic Freshman Class in <br /> 1997 and to serve in the Democratic House leadership. <br /> Mr.Davis was a co-chair of the U.S.House New Democratic Coalition with Reps.Ron Kind and Adam <br /> Smith,the incoming chairman of the House Armed Services Committee. He was a leader in the <br /> development and passage of significant international trade legislation working with President <br /> Clinton.
