MUM
"111611510 C I
SSW
own
Enl; Ir'tEeF} s memorandum
DATE: January 11, 2018 JOB#: 16011-0158
TO: Todd Schutz: Craft Architects
CC:
FROM: Craig Stainer
SUBJECT: Bertch Ca'Rai
=uilding A-Footing Settlement
It is our understanding that there has been some footing settlement in the North-Eas corn
of Building A. The following is our understanding of the existing conditions and our comments
concerning the structural impacts.
Based on e-mails,conversations and a detailed description of the existing conditions
provided by Sierra Construction in a pdf titled"Panel Settlement',we understand that there
has been some foundation settlement in the North-East corner of building A.The cause of the
settlement according to Terra Associates is groundwater seepage from a waterline trench. It
is our understanding that Terra Associates feels that the seepage is now under control and
no future settlement is expected from this cause.
Based on information provided by Sierra it appears that there is differential settlement of%"
from the west end of panel#10 to the east end of panel#10. The east end of panel#10 is the
low corner of the building settlement. As a result of this settlement there is also a gap
between panels 8 and 10 that starts a 1/"at the base(which is the detailed gap dimension)to
a 2"gap at the top of the panel.
Pictures of the underside of the roof framing was provided by Sierra but no pictures from the
top side of the roof were submitted as the roof currently has insulations and a roof membrane
of the top of the roof sheathing. No damage to the roof framing was noted in the pictures
provided. It is not clear if there is any damage to the top side of the roof framing as visual
access is no longer possible.
It is our opinion that the current condition of the north-East corner of Building A is stable and
there are no structural or life-safety concerns. Therefore, no structural remediation is required
at this time. If it hasn't already been done, the enlarged panel gap between panels 8 and 10
should be properly sealed.
This report is based on limited visual observations of structural components that were
accessible for photographic documentation by Sierra Construction. No special testing was
performed by DCI Engineers.
If any continued settlement in this area is note it should be reviewed by a structural an
geotechnical engineer for stability and life safety concerns and possible remediati• ® E.
