GEODES1GNu FIELD REPORT
Project Name: ; Everett River Front-Simpson Report: 106
GeoDesign#: I Polygon-127-03 Date: 5/29/2018
Reports with Unresolved Nonconformance Issues: Permit:
PW1505-005
Nick Abdelnour(Polygon) Randy Allen`(City of Everett)® Weather: Clear, 60's
Ron Bowen(Polygon) Eddy Stevens(Polygon) Arrival/Departure: 1200/1245
Distribution: _._._
Doug Ross(Polygon) i Kirk Keck(City of Everett)
Paul McKee(City of Everett)
® Site Plan(s) Dave Foster(City of Everett) Prepared By: Bren Weinberg,
berg, EIT
mDensity Test Summary a
Attachments:
❑ Installation Records 0 Other Reviewed By: ,.rkr‘.u..>e sz.r
PURPOSE of VISIT: GeoDesign representative, Ben Weinberg, was on-site part time at the request of Craig with DDS to
observe foundation subgrade for Lot 148 and 149.
SUMMARY OF OBSERVATIONS:
Lot 148:
Upon arrival, GeoDesign noted that DDS had completed excavation of the foundation and crawl space area for Lot 148.
The exposed foundation subgrade consisted of a gray-brown silty SAND with gravel which could be probed generally less
than 1 inch using a 1/2 inch diameter soil probe across the east 2/3rd's of the lot area. The west 1/3 of the lot area
consisted a gray to gray-brown GRAVEL with sand and silt that could be probed generally less than 3 inches.
Relative compaction of the exposed foundation subgrade was tested using a Troxler Moisture-Density gauge; in-place
density tests indicated that material had been compacted to greater than 95%of its maximum dry density as determined by
a Modified Proctor analysis.
It is the opinion of GeoDesign that exposed foundation subgrade observed today is currently suitable for support of the;
intended structure. GeoDesign recommends that any surficially loose and saturated material that may be generated be
removed from the base of foundation areas prior to the placement of concrete.
Lots 149:
Upon arrival, GeoDesign noted that DDS had completed excavation of the foundation and crawl space area for Lot 149.
The lot area, which was previously covered with a temporary sales office, was over-excavated 1-2 feet below plan subgrade
across most of the lot area. There were 3 internal areas where concrete pads had been installed which required
over-excavation of approximately 3 feet below planned subgrade. The soil exposed at the base of the excavation generally
consisted of a gray-brown silty SAND with gravel that could be probed less than 1 inch using a 1/2 inch diameter soil probe.
Relative compaction of the exposed foundation subgrade soil was tested using a Troxler Moisture-Density gauge; in-place
density tests indicated that the material had been compacted to greater than 95%of its maximum dry density as determined
by a Modified Proctor analysis. GeoDesign notified the contractor that the excavation observed today is currently suitable
for placement of backfill material. It is our understanding that the contractor intends to backfill the excavation with 2-inch
clean crushed rock material compacted into a firm and unyielding mass over the next few days.
A summary of our observations and density tests taken today can be found in the attached Figure 1 and Nuclear Density
Gauge Data. The contractor was notified of our observations.
This report presents opinions formed as a result of our observation of activities relating to geotechnical engineering or environmental services. We rely on the contractor to comply with the plans and
specifications throughout the duration of the project irrespective of the presence of our representative. Our work does not include supervision or direction of the contractor, the contractor's employees
or agents. Our firm is not responsible for site safety. This field report is a DRAFT representation of our field observations, testing, and preliminary recommendations. The report can only be considered
final upon review of the GeoDesign project manager,as indicated by initials in the"Reviewed By'section,
10700 Meridian Avenue North,Suite 402 I Seattle,WA 98133 I 206.838.9900
2502 Jefferson Avenue I Tacoma,WA 98402 I 253.203.0095
