Today, we noted that
DDS had completed backfilling the over-excavated area with railroad ballast material that had been compacted into a firm
and unyielding mass. We also noted that loose and saturated material that had built up on the east half of the lot area had
been removed down to firm and unyielding ground that could be probed less than 2 inches.
It is the opinion of GeoDesign that exposed foundation subgrade observed today is currently suitable for support of the
intended structure. GeoDesign recommends that any surficially loose and saturated material that may be generated be
removed from the base of foundation areas prior to the placement of concrete.
Lots 201-205:
From 2/19/18 to 3/1/18, GeoDesign observed foundation subgrade areas for Lots 201 to 205 and noted that they were
suitable for support of the intended structure at the time of our observations. Today, we noted that the foundations had not
been poured and that the lot areas had been left exposed since our observations. At the time of our visit, loose material had
generated in areas across the lots which exhibited yielding underfoot. We recommend that this material be removed from
the base of the footing areas prior to the placement of concrete.
A summary of our observations can be found in the attached Figure 1.
This report presents opinions formed as a result of our observation of activities relating to geotechnical engineering or environmental services. We rely on the contractor to comply with the plans and
specifications throughout the duration of the project irrespective of the presence of our representative. Our work does not include supervision or direction of the contractor, the contractor's employees
or agents. Our firm is not responsible for site safety. This field report is a DRAFT representation of our field observations, testing, and preliminary recommendations. The report can only be considered
final upon review of the GeoDesign project manager,as indicated by initials in the"Reviewed By”section.
10700 Meridian Avenue North,Suite 402 I Seattle,WA 98133 I 206.838.9900 *------2502 Jefferson Avenue I Tacoma,WA 98402 I 253.203.0095
