CEODESIGNu FIELD REPORT
1 of 2
Project Name: Everett River Front- Simpson Report: 091
GeoDesign#: Polygon-127-03 Date: 1/29/2018
I Reports with Unresolved Nonconformance Issues: Permit:
PW1505-005
i
1 .
Nick Abdelnour(Polygon) ! Randy Allen(City of Everett) Weather: Cloudy, 40's
Ron Bowen(Polygon) ' Eddy Stevens(Polygon) Arrival/Departure: 1015/1045
Distribution:
Doug Ross(Polygon) Kirk Keck(City of Everett)
Paul McKee(City of Everett) i.Dave Foster(City of Everett) Prepared By: Ben Weinberg, EIT
im Site Plan(s) 0 Density Test Summary Signature: 4-- 1
Attachments:
❑ Installation Records 0 Other Reviewed By Jai' ti.ti"7 --c.
PURPOSE of VISIT: GeoDesign representative, Ben Weinberg, was on-site part time at the request of Craig with DDS to
observe foundation subgrade for Lot 215 and 281.
SUMMARY OF OBSERVATIONS:
Lot 281:
Previously, GeoDesign identified an approximately 15 feet long and 15 feet wide triangular area in the northeast corner of
Lot 281 which could be probed 1-3 feet using a 1/2 inch diameter soil probe and required the removal of 1.5-4 feet of
unsuitable material to expose firm and unyielding soil. Today, GeoDesign noted that the contractor had completed
backfilling of the over-excavated area with a 2-inch clean crushed rock material compacted into a firm and unyielding mass.
It is the opinion of GeoDesign that the exposed foundation subgrade observed today is currently suitable for Support of the
intended structure. GeoDesign recommends that any surficially loose and saturated material that may be generated prior to
placement of concrete be removed from the base of the footing areas.
40 2151.
Upon arrival, GeoDesign noted that DDS had completed excavation of the footing and crawl space area for Lot 215.
GeoDesign noted that the exposed foundation subgrade area generally consisted of a gray-brown silty SAND (f-m)with
gravel (f-c)which could be probed less than 2 inches.
GeoDesign identified three areas across the lot area which could be probed 6 inches to 3 feet using a 1/2 inch diameter soil
probe and was unsuitable for support of the intended structure. The deepest penetration depths were noted along the west
and south side of the lot area; it appeared that previous over-excavation and replacement of material along the edges of the
excavation was ineffective or that the over-excavation was not adequately extended beyond the building perimeter.
A summary of our observations can be found in the attached Figure 1.
GeoDesign notified the contractor that the areas were currently unsuitable for support of the intended structure and would
require over-excavation down to firm and unyielding soil and replacement with structural fill material.
This report presents opinions formed as a result of our observation of activities relating to geotechnical engineering or environmental services. We rely on the contractor to comply with the plans and
specifications throughout the duration of the project irrespective of the presence of our representative. Our work does not include supervision or direction of the contractor, the contractor's employees
or agents. Our firm is not responsible for site safety. This field report is a DRAFT representation of our field observations, testing, and preliminary recommendations. The report can only be considered
final upon review of the GeoDesign project manager,as indicated by initials in the"Reviewed By"section.
10700 Meridian Avenue North,Suite 402 I Seattle,WA 98133 I 206.838.9900
2502 Jefferson Avenue I Tacoma,WA 98402 I 253.203.0095 '
