The surface of the first lift of backfill <br /> was approximately 5 feet below finish grade. Backfill material consisted of gray silty sand with gravel mixed with cement. <br /> Backfill was placed in 0.5-1 foot lifts and compacted with a large single drum vibratory roller. A 1/2-inch-diameter steel soil <br /> probe and Troxler 3430 Nuclear Density Gauge was used to determine the density of the backfill material. Penetration <br /> depths of 1/2-inch when probed and density tests indicate that the fill had been compacted to at least 95% of maximum dry <br /> density. <br /> Based on observations,probing, and density tests, it is GeoDesign's opinion that backfill observed today has been <br /> prepared in general accordance with project specifications and geotechnical recommendations. <br /> This report presents opinions formed as a result of our observation of activities relating to geotechnical engineglgg or environmental services.We rely on the contractor to comply with the plans and ''/ <br /> specifications throughout the duration of the project irrespective of the presence of our representative.
