GeoDesign notified John with Polygon that the foundation area would need to be dewatered prior to evaluation of
the foundation subgrade. GeoDesign departed the site at approximately 8:15 AM and returned at 6:15 PM. After returning,
GeoDesign noted that the foundation excavation area had been dewatered, with scattered puddles with less than 2 inches
of water. The exposed foundation subgrade consisted of a gray silty SAND (f-m)with gravel (f-c)which was evaluated
using a 1/2 inch diameter soil probe and a Troxler Moisture-Density gauge. Penetration depths encountered were generally
less than 2 inches and in-place density tests indicated that the exposed foundation subgrade had been compacted to
greater than 95%of its maximum dry density as determined by a Modified Proctor analysis.
It is the opinion of GeoDesign that the exposed foundation subgrade is suitable for support of the intended structure and
recommends that any surficially loose and saturated material be removed from the base of the foundation prior to the
placement of concrete. A summary of our observations and density tests taken today can be found in the attached Nuclear
Density Gauge Data and Figure 1.
Lot 128:
Upon return to the site, GeoDesign noted that the foundation excavation subcontractor had excavated approximately 80%
of the foundation and crawl space area for Lot 128. GeoDesign noted that the exposed foundation subgrade generally
consisted of a gray silty SAND(f-m)with gravel (f-c)which could be penetrated less than 2 inches using a 1/2 inch diameter
soil probe; in-place density tests taken on the west, south, and east side indicated that the material had been compacted to
greater than 95%of its maximum dry density as determined by a Modified Proctor analysis.
It is the opinion of GeoDesign that the exposed foundation subgrade observed today is currently suitable for support of the
intended structure. GeoDesign recommends that any surficially loose and saturated material be removed from the base of
the foundation prior to the placement of concrete. A summary of our observations and density tests taken today can be
found in the attached Nuclear Density Gauge Data and Figure 1.
This report presents opinions formed as a result of our observation of activities relating to geotechnical engineering or environmental services. We rely on the contractor to comply with the plans and
specifications throughout the duration of the project irrespective of the presence of our representative.
