SUMMARY OF OBSERVATIONS: Lot 282: Today, GeoDesign noted that DDS had completed excavation of the foundation and crawl space area for Lot 282 (Previously Lot 384). We noted that the exposed foundation subgrade generally consisted of a gray silty SAND with gravel that could be probed less than 3 inches using a 1/2 inch diameter soil probe. According to Craig with DDS,the southern portion of the foundation required approximately 1 to 1.5 feet of over-excavation to expose firm and unyielding soil. The base of the over-excavated area could be probed less than 1 inch. After observing the base of the over-excavated area,we notified DDS that it was currently suitable for placement of backfill material. It is our understanding that the over-excavated area will be backfilled with a 2-inch clean crushed railroad ballast material compacted into a firm and unyielding mass at a later date. A summary of our observations can be found in the attached Figure 1. The contractor was notified of our observations prior to our departure from the site.
