GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING STUDY
Cascasia Pacific Properties, Ltd.
July 15, 1999
E-8602
Page 5
Due to the proposed below -grade level planned for the development, construction of
temporary slopes or the use of shoring will be necessary to complete the below grade
construction. Based on our understanding of the planned development, shoring will be
necessary primarily along the east and south sides of the site. The existing retaining walls
that extend above the property on the east side of the site can be assessed for their
usefulness in contributing to the temporary shoring of the excavations. Adjacent to the alley
and existing brick building to the west and north of the site, respectively, no significant
lowering of site gredes is planned. Due to the close proximity of the development to the
existing building north of the site, we recommend locating the footing of the brick building andl
establishing its elevation.
Due to the close proximity of the existing two-story building north of the site, survey points
should be established along the foundation of the building to monitor movements during the
construction phase. A photo or video damage survey should be made on all adjacent
structures prior to the start of construction. We can assist you with the survey.
Recommendations for shoring aro presented in the "Shoring" section of the report.
This report has been prepared for the exclusive use of Cascasia Pacific Properties, Ltd. and
their representatives. The report was prepared for specific application to this project only and
in a manner consistent with that level of care and skill ordinarily exercised by other members
of the profession currently practicing under similar conditions in this area. No other warranty,
expressed or implied, is made. We recommend that this report, in its entirety, be included in
the project contract documents for the information of the contractor.
Site Preparation and General Earthwork
The proposed development areas of the site should be stripped and cleared of existing
structures, pavements, and surface vegetation. Existing utility pipes intended to be
abandoned should be plugged or removed. Once the site has been stripped, temporary
shoring, where necessary, can be installed, and the excavation to design subgrade elevations
can begin.
Esnh Consuhents, Inc.
