These comments address building issues only, additional revisions or additions may be required by other departments (such as Utilities, Planning or Fire). All references refer to the 1991 Uniform Building Code, as amended by the State of Washington and/or Washington State Energy Code 1991, 2nd Edition, unless stated otherwise. The numbered items that follow refer to my original comment letter dated March 23, 1994. 1. The architect's seal is not legible. 4. A sprinkler system is not adequate to provide separation between exit stairs and corridors or elevators. The purpose of a stair enclosure, as required by Section 3309, is to provide a smoke free and fire rated enclosure for exiting. A sprinkler system does not remove or prevent smoke accumulation. Section 3309(c) prohibits any openings into a stair enclosure except those required for exiting. A stair enclosure cannot be part of a corridor system serving multiple spaces as you have indicated on the second floor and the third floor. 7. Elevator lobbies are required to separate the elevator shaft from stairs and corridors. Section 3305ij). 10.
