'I-EVERETT
High School Internship Intermediary
/ PUBLIC for proposals
SCHOOLS Request January 2019
Overview
There is increasing interest in the Everett region to partner Everett Public Schools students with
regional employers to provide student internship opportunities purposed to foster awareness of
and interest in regional high-demand careers.
Both Everett Public Schools(the district) and the City of Everett(the city)have vested interests
in a regional high school internship program. High school internship opportunities support the
vitality of the region by providing students with the opportunity to access knowledge of pathways
to fulfilling careers, while at the same time providing employers opportunity to address
workforce needs by working with potential future employees.
Having launched a suite of career-connected learning programs, district staff have surfaced the
many strengths of,and limitations to,district leadership of such programs. A notable limitation
is the capacity of district staff to recruit and prepare employers for career-connected learning
programs such as student internships.
This request for proposals is for a io-month pilot of a regional intermediary.
Briefly stated,an intermediary is an individual or organization that works closely with school
systems,higher education,local business and labor,industry associations,community-based
organizations, and local government to secure the involvement and build capacity of employer
partners in support of career-connected learning programs.
The scope of work,a contract co-hosted by the district and the city, will pilot strategies for
employer recruitment and preparation for hosting high school student interns during summer of
2019. Upon completion of the summer internships, the contractor will work with the district and
the city to conceive the design and launch of a permanent regional intermediary.
Scope of work overview I Timeline and benchmarks
Phase 1:Recruitment of internship employer hosts I January—March 2019
In coordination with the district and the city(to assure consistent branding and recruitment
methods)recruitment of a minimum of 5o internship placements in high-demand sectors.
Phase 2:Matching and preparation of employer hosts I April—June 2019
In coordination with the district, complete matching of students and employers by April 30,
2019;in coordination with the district assurance that employers complete employer internship
handbook and required forms.
Phase 3:Internship support for employer hosts I July—August 2019
In coordination with the district and the city, provide necessary support for employer hosts—
both required support(compliance for the state's credit bearing worksite learning internships)
and as-needed support.
Phase 4:Inform design and launch of permanent intermediary I September—October 2019
In coordination with the district, the city, and other community partners as identified, lead a
reflection of the intermediary process, and consideration and planning for launch of a permanent
intermediary.
Required experience and expertise
Bachelor's degree(preferably master's degree)in business or related field.
