See pages R1 and R2 in the calculations package for section BB on A300, collar ties 2x8
resolving tension loads, ensuring the members and connections are sized appropriately for the
tension loading provided.
24. On sheet 2/A300 and 4/S200, it appears that CMU walls are present from site photos along
the west elevation. However, existing 2x4 exterior studs are being called out. Please Clarify.
Also, CMU wall construction appears to be new, please provide calculations addressing the
design for the wall for gravity and out-of-plane lateral forces.
The existing west wall is concrete on the bottom and a CMU on top. A new 2x6 wood framed
pony wall is to be added on top of the existing CMU wall, to raise the floor level. In order to
accommodate the additional out-of-plane loads from new pony wall, the new 2x6 furring wall is
detailed with a brace connecting to the bottom of the new pony wall, such that any new forces
from the new wood pony wall are resisted by the wood furring wall, instead of the existing
CMU wall. See detail 2/S101 and calculation pages L4-L5. The CMU walls are entirely existing.
25. On 4/S200, CMU walls appear to be new and installed as part of the bearing wall system of
the structure. Please provide details and calculations addressing out-of-plane wall anchorage
connection to brace the wall per ASCE 7-10 Sec 12.11.2.1.
As already shown on the plans, no new CMU walls are included in this project.
26. The LVL ridge beam size shown on 2/S100 does not match the size shown on the permit
calculations (R1 beam). Please revise and clarify on drawings on the proposed size shown on
permit calculations are actually beams "sistered" together.
