1.n. Fully integrate the planning of sidewalks, walkways, and bicycle facilities and trails, <br /> into overall transportation planning, programming, and construction activities. <br /> 1.o. Promote safe, well lighted, pedestrian walkways and trails to minimize travel <br /> distances within and between new development, adjoining residential areas, transit stops, <br /> and activity centers. <br /> l.p. Plan specific City roadways to accommodate bicycle routes, consistent with the <br /> Bicycle System Plan. <br /> 1.q. Encourage accessibility for bicyclists on the transit system. <br /> 1.r. Encourage new and redeveloping properties, major transit stations, and park and ride <br /> lots located within the city to provide bicycle parking and related amenities to help <br /> encourage the use of bicycles by residents, employees, shoppers and visitors. <br /> 1.s. Actively seek the resources necessary to pursue appropriate bicycle and pedestrian <br /> travel improvements and a place a high priority on maintaining both systems. <br /> i.t Encourage private and public institutions, such hospitals, churches, school districts and <br /> others, to develop and continue the implementation of safe pedestrian and bicycle routes <br /> and connections to and from schools and bus stops, neighborhood parks and activity <br /> centers, transit hubs, industrial and recreational areas of the marine waterfront, and other <br /> places of community and public interest. <br /> 1.u. Encourags? public and private institutions, civic organizations, clubs and other interest <br /> groups to provide educational programs that promote the use of safe riding skills. <br /> Preservation of Transportation Rights-of-Way <br /> 1.v. Encourage the preservation of existing and abandoned rail and other rights-of-way for <br /> potential future transportation-related uses. <br /> 1.w. Seek control of parcels of land that may be needed in the future for any <br /> transportation purpose when the opportunity arises through sale, donation, or land use <br /> action. <br /> Funding <br /> 1.x. Seek an equitable share of any regional high capacity transit service, at least <br /> proportional to the city's share of transit costs. <br /> 1.y. Actively seek local, state, and federal funding and grants for the provision *Id <br /> enhancement of bicycle facilities and amenities. <br /> T-20 <br />
