SUMMARY OF OBSERVATIONS: BUILDING 14 - MAT FOUNDATION SUBGRADE OBSERVATIONS: Previously, GeoDesign noted two areas along the west side of Building 14 which could be probed 1-3 feet using a 1/2 inch diameter soil probe. Today, GeoDesign noted that DDS had over -excavated the previously identified area down to a gray -brown silty SAND with gravel which could be probed less than 1 inch using a 1/2 inch diameter soil probe. The area in the northwest corner of the building had been over -excavated approximately 3 feet. The area in the southwest corner of the building had been over -excavated approximately 1 foot. The over -excavated areas had filled with 4-8 inches of water prior to our arrival. It is our understanding that the over -excavated areas will be dewatered and backfilled with a 2-inch clean crushed rock tamped into a firm and unyielding mass during backfilling of interior plumbing trenches scheduled for a later date. A summary of our observations can be found in the attached Figure 1. This report presents opinions formed as a result of our observation of activities relating to geotechnical engineering or environmental services. We rely on the contractor to comply with the plans and specifications throughout the duration of the project Irrespective of the presence of our representative. Our work does not Include supervision or direction of the contractor, the contractor's employees or agents. Our firm is not responsible for site safety. This field report is a DRAFT representation of our field observations, testing, and preliminary recommendations.
