A
vacation is an action,to be approved by City Council, which transfers City ownership in exchange for public
benefit. That public benefit is typically two-fold. One,the City receives monetary compensation and two,
the result of the vacation is that property that served as City right of way is placed on the tax roll.
During the vacation process associated with the Riverview Apartments' project(which Council approved at
its April 17, 2019 meeting), Council discussed whether the current policy directing how the share of funds
accrued from the vacation of streets and alleys dedicated to the acquisition, development, improvement
and/or maintenance of open space and transportation projects should be reviewed and/or revised.
Staff will present a summary of the current policy and policy performance since 2002. Potential approaches
regarding policy revision options will then be presented for City Council consideration.
RECOMMENDATION:
1
