I believe you wanted to know why Bath 3 is not accessible.
To help with clarification I also emailed the client(Todd)and the person at DOH (Clynn)who has guided us through their
process. I also included the Code and Interior Elevations sheets that are the same as submitted to the City of Everett
and the State DOH for their reviews. Sheet A523 and A005 are the focus for this discussion.
• Since these are sleeping units we are proposing building Type A and Type B bathrooms per the Fair Housing
Design Guidelines. The bathrooms are only available to the residents of the facility and thus are residential
bathing rooms.
• Our Toilet Room is available to Staff and Visitors and thus is fully accessible.
• Bath 1 will be a roll-in shower per A523. We will add a fold down seat. A roll-in shower is a requirement of the
DOH.We will increase the room size by 8 inches in order to get the 5 foot clearance at the toilet
• Bath 2 is a Type A tub. We added a removable seat per City of Everett request per A523. A tub is a requirement
of DOH. We will increase the room size by 8 inches in order to get the 5 foot clearance at the toilet
• Bath 4 is a Type B walk in shower per A523. Since the showers can be used by anyone (except for the anti
ligature patients)we wanted a shower that was more conventional. This is allowed per 1107.5.1.1
• Bath 3 is an anti-ligature room. While the room clearances are accessible, the handrails, shower, shower spray,
toilet, etc are not. The shower area cannot have a shower rod nor glass doors because of the possible harm to
the person whom is bathing. Per the DOH we are using the IBC 1103.2.13 as stated on A005. Anti-ligature
residents are similar to detainees. However instead of observing them in the bathing room, the room is
equipped with fixtures and devices that allow for the patient's safety while they bathe in privacy.
If these explanations are OK with you we will add the above information and resubmit
I hope this helps clarify the toilet room arrangement for this facility.
Marc Jenefsky,AIA, NCARB, LEED
Principal Architect
BAZAN ARCHITECTS
www.bazanarchitects.com
Office 425-637-0831 EXT 3
Mobile 206-947-9939
From:Tony Lee [mailto:TLee@everettwa.gov]
Sent: Monday, December 11, 2017 2:41 PM
To: Marc Jenefsky<MarcJenefsky@bazanarchitects.com>
Subject: ESF Everett submittal
Hi Marc—
(7)
