Specifically, were these 4x posts required for
the gravity system of the building. All gravity posts were specified on the plans and not the
balcony detail N/S5.03.:
The 4x posts on detail on N/S5.03 were only intended to provide support for the original 4-ft
wide balcony design. This original balcony design extended out further away from the building
and required diagonal tension rods. These tension rods were supported by the 4x members
shown on N/S5.03.
Recently the balconies have been reduced in size, and now project only 12" away from the
building. This most current configuration does not result in a need for the 4x posts. The current
balcony configurations and their detailing requirements were indicated on our shop drawing
review of June 24, 2015.
No upgrades or modifications are required.
If you have any questions, please feel to contact me at (206) 622-5822.
Sincerely,
ii#,P47
( :',1:,2 4.1 ir
Adam M.
