aIle L.,
September 16, 2015
Mr. Mike Bergstrom, LEED® AP
Project Manager
Synergy Constructiqn, Inc.
Mobile: 206.510.0134 'F 11171 T 513 0 k 636--
Email: mbergstrom@synergyconstructlon.com
Re: Pagoda Village, Grand and Wall Street, Everett, Washington, Synergy
Construction, Acrylic Panels and 'Z-Series' Connectors at Balcony Intermediate Rails
Mr. Bergstrom,
We have reviewed the shop drawings by Goldfinch Brothers, dated 4/14/2015 and
calculations by Edward C. Robinson, PE (attached). We understand the Acrylic Panels and 'Z-
Series' zinc connectors are to attach to the steel frame balconies at the Pagoda Village, Grand
and Wall Street, Everett.
The reviewed calculations show that the 'Z-Series' zinc connectors can support 446 lbs of
horizontal force, the maximum distance between the connectors should not be more than 4'-
9". Please review our attached comments to the shop drawings (E2, E5, and E6) showing the
location of the 'Z-Series' zinc connectors. The panels and connectors are designed with the
intent to resist a 25 psf wind load and 50 pound concentrated load. Based on the calculations
and tables by Mr. Robinson, PE the 'Z-Series' zinc connectors and 1/2" Acrylic panels are
adequate to resist 2012 International Building Code (Chapter 16, section 1607.8.1.2) and the
American Society of Civil Engineers Minimum Design Loads 7, section 4.5.1.
Install the 'Z-Series' connectors per the manufacturer's specifications and provide holes in the
Acrylic panels as specified in the attached calculations by Mr. Robinson, PE. Verify with
manufacturer the placement of connectors and hole diameter'will allow expansion and
shrinkage that will not result in damage to the Acrylic panels or 'Z-Series' connectors.
The 'Z-Series' zinc connectors and the 1/2" Acrylic panels meet the minimum loads
requirements of the 2012 IBC and ASCE 7. The shop drawin.• e connector locations
should be modified as attached. 4 VANE
Please call, (206) 380-0732, if q`ou have u *-Q",,,,'•.%661'wr+, , ' `
y . questions. l,
Sincerely,
Sliderule Engineering Works, Ilc . 4 )7:
S' N A L -,
Andrew L.
