ii___.. EVERETT
moo WASHINGTON
City of Everett Human Needs Grant
January 1, 2019 through December 31, 2019
Exhibit A
Program Summary
Organization & Program: Work Opportunities: Employment Supports for Individuals with Disabilities
The mission of Work Opportunities is to promote self-determination,self-respect,and valued participation in the
community for people with disabilities through work.We have a commitment to a strong, positive vision of the roles
of people with disabilities in our communities and a dedication toward making that vision a reality.
Work Opportunities is addressing a critical need in the community. There is an exceptionally high rate of
unemployment among people with disabilities, particularly students with special needs leaving high school.
Unemployment leads to isolation and poverty and this prevents individuals with disabilities from participating in
meaningful ways in community life. This problem is further exacerbated by decreased public funding which has
resulted in many adults with disabilities having no support or assistance in finding employment.
This program supports people with disabilities in obtaining and maintaining employment. We support individuals
with job preperation activities: learning work appropriate behaviors, volunteering, and increasing vocational skills.
We also provide job development services: completing applications, networking with businesses and assisting with
interviews. When people with isabilities are employed,we assist them with maintaining their job through:job
coaching, intensive training, and supporting supervisors and co-workers.
We meet the needs of people with disabilities by providing career path services to this population to ensure their
inclusion and participation in the community and workplace. This objective aligns with City of Everett's Human
Needs priorities, of increasing self-sufficiency and addressing diversity. Our program services are designed to
increase the self-sufficiency of the individuals we serve through helping them earn increased wages and create a
more inclusive workplace by matching employers with qualified workers who have disabilities;ultimately
improving diversity in the workforce.
2019 Human Needs Contracts 7
