Ted de Budden
From: Ted de Budden
Sent: Monday, October 02, 2017 11:51 AM
To: Donald Cunningham
Subject: RE: 6714 Highland
Good morning Don,
Here is a summary of my records research, and observations made during the inspection conducted with you 9/26/2017
at 6714 Highland Drive.
Records indicate that buildings on the property consist of a 1398 square foot main house constructed in 1925, a
detached 672 square foot garage structure constructed in 1992, and an 864 square foot structure that is attached to the
main house by a long"breezeway" roof structure.
According to records the attached structure was constructed in 1959 for use as a shop.
Inspection of the building revealed that the former"shop" building has been altered and converted into a separate
dwelling complete with two separate bedrooms, a kitchen, a bathroom, laundry closet, and main living space.
My records search failed to discover any permits or approvals for this second dwelling.
It is my conclusion that the second dwelling was created at some time in the past without required permit and
inspection approvals.
The altered shop building is an Unlawful Structure as defined by code. IPMC section 108.1.4
I fully support and encourage your enforcement efforts to bring this property into compliance.
Regards
Ted M. de Budden
Chief Inspector
Everett Building Department
425.257 7271
From: Donald Cunningham
Sent: Thursday, September 28, 2017 7:52 AM
To: Ted de Budden
Subject: 6714 Highland
Ted-
Here are some portions from my VC—issued yesterday. Please just send me your inspection comments next week when
you are back to work.
Don
An inspection of the property on September 26, 2017 revealed the presence of three structures extending east
to west. These structures are identified within City permit records (site plan for Variance #10-92) as a House,
a Shop, and a Garage. The 2017 inspection revealed the central structure, the"shop," has been converted into
a separate dwelling unit without required permits and appr vals. This structure now contains a kitchen,
