y --T . -� I • I • ORDINANCE NO AN ORDINANCE creating a Senior Citizen's Advisory Board 1 WHEREAS , the City Council finds that there are approximately 16,000 2 senior citizens within the City of Everett; and 3 WHEREAS , the City Council finds that there are insufficient activities, 4 programs and opportunities for senior citizens to enjoy and participate in a 5 full life including recreational programs, leisure time activities , public 6 service opportunities and self-fulfillment opportunities; and 7 8 WHEREAS , the City Council finds that such services are in the best 9 interests of the City and a Senior Citizen's Advisory Board is deemed to be 10 an appropriate and necessary element in the operation of the City to assist 11 the Mayor and the City Council in the development of programs to assist 12 the senior citizens of our community in developing a total and worthwhile 13 life style opportunity. 14 NOW, THEREFORE , THE CITY OF EVERETT DOES ORDAIN as follows: 15 Section 1: That there is hereby created a Senior Citizen's Advisory 16 17 Board consisting of twenty-seven (27) members. 18 Section 2: That the members of this Board shall be appointed by the 19 Mayor for terms as provided in Section 5.2 of the Charter of City of Everett. 20 Section 3: That the Senior Citizen's Advisory Board shall have as 21 one of its duties the responsibility to develop a recommendation for a 22 comprehensive senior citizen program which provides senior citizens 23 opportunities to be involved in recreational programs, leisure time 24 25 activities, public service opportunities , self-fulfillment opportunities 26 and any other projects and programs beneficial to the welfare of senior 27 citizens . Such programs and projects shall be developed in conjunction 28 with the Park Board, the various senior citizens' organizations in the 29 community, the Chamber of Commerce, the churches and any other 30 interested private or public organization. 31 32
