y --T . <br /> -� I • <br /> I • <br /> ORDINANCE NO <br /> AN ORDINANCE creating a Senior Citizen's Advisory <br /> Board <br /> 1 WHEREAS , the City Council finds that there are approximately 16,000 <br /> 2 senior citizens within the City of Everett; and <br /> 3 WHEREAS , the City Council finds that there are insufficient activities, <br /> 4 <br /> programs and opportunities for senior citizens to enjoy and participate in a <br /> 5 <br /> full life including recreational programs, leisure time activities , public <br /> 6 <br /> service opportunities and self-fulfillment opportunities; and <br /> 7 <br /> 8 WHEREAS , the City Council finds that such services are in the best <br /> 9 interests of the City and a Senior Citizen's Advisory Board is deemed to be <br /> 10 an appropriate and necessary element in the operation of the City to assist <br /> 11 the Mayor and the City Council in the development of programs to assist <br /> 12 the senior citizens of our community in developing a total and worthwhile <br /> 13 <br /> life style opportunity. <br /> 14 <br /> NOW, THEREFORE , THE CITY OF EVERETT DOES ORDAIN as follows: <br /> 15 <br /> Section 1: That there is hereby created a Senior Citizen's Advisory <br /> 16 <br /> 17 Board consisting of twenty-seven (27) members. <br /> 18 Section 2: That the members of this Board shall be appointed by the <br /> 19 Mayor for terms as provided in Section 5.2 of the Charter of City of Everett. <br /> 20 Section 3: That the Senior Citizen's Advisory Board shall have as <br /> 21 one of its duties the responsibility to develop a recommendation for a <br /> 22 <br /> comprehensive senior citizen program which provides senior citizens <br /> 23 <br /> opportunities to be involved in recreational programs, leisure time <br /> 24 <br /> 25 activities, public service opportunities , self-fulfillment opportunities <br /> 26 and any other projects and programs beneficial to the welfare of senior <br /> 27 citizens . Such programs and projects shall be developed in conjunction <br /> 28 with the Park Board, the various senior citizens' organizations in the <br /> 29 community, the Chamber of Commerce, the churches and any other <br /> 30 <br /> interested private or public organization. <br /> 31 <br /> 32 <br />
