The following design conditions for the analysis are
based on the site conditions or according to the minimum code requirements:
Roof Snow load: 25 PSF
Deck live load: 40 PSF
Basic wind Speed: 110 MPH
Wind Exposure/Importance: B/Iw=1.0
Seismic Site Class: D
Soil Bearing capacity: 2,000 PSF
The deck as shown on the plans meets all of the structural requirements of the building code. The ledger
attachment of%"lag bolts into the building rim joists at 16"on-center provides both vertical and
withdrawal protection. Additional metal straps, Simpson LSTA9s at each of the side joists to the building
rim joist would provide further protection from deck detachment. All of the existing posts are adequate to
support required vertical loads per the analysis. The worst case loading for the posts was analyzed and
was within acceptable limits if lateral loads are carried by the existing building through the ledger. This
can be accomplished with the addition of two diagonal braces applied to the bottom of the joists to the
ledger with min(2) 10d galvanize nails into each joist and the ledger. A44 post caps provide adequate
post attachment to beams. The glue lams are strong enough to support the deck, and can be made
sides, ith caulk where from
necessary weather
kee moistureoff the beams. The attachment
and-siding-on the-exposed
- --
acceptableprotected_
ary pttachment of the guard rail posts
using(2) 1/2"lag bolts meets min code requirements of 200 lb lateral point load at the railing height.
Diagonal bracing of a pressure treated 1x4(min)applied to the bottom of the joists to the ledger with(2)
10d galvanized nails each(as noted above)will provide acceptable lateral bracing to the deck, diagonal
knee bracing may also be applied to the columns to provide addition bracing and security, but are not
required.
If you have any questions or are in need of further assistance please feel free to call.
sy
27974 s 7?
-r_-
Peter Chopelas PE ✓
