EVERETT
WASHINGTON
City of Everett Human Needs Grant
January 1, 2019 through December 31, 2019
Exhibit A
Program Summary
Organization & Program: United Way of Snohomish County: Youth and Family Wellness Fair
The Snohomish County Children's Wellness Coalition is a countywide, collaborative effort to improve the
wellbeing of children and their families throughout our community. The Coalition is supported by Snohomish
County Human Services and the Snohomish Health District,as well as many agency and expert community partners
from throughout the region.
It is driven by findings from the landmark Adverse Childhood Experiences(ACEs)study that found higher levels of
traumatic experiences in the general population than previously imagined.Extensive research on the biology of
stress now shows that healthy development can be derailed by excessive or prolonged activation of stress response
systems in the body and brain, demonstrating clear impacts on learning, behavior, and relationships beginning in
early childhood and lasting throughout a person's lifespan.
The Coalition is committed to engaging the community to ensure all children and youth in Snohomish County thrive
and are equipped with resiliency. They do this by:
• Educating stakeholders on trauma,ACEs,resilience, brain science, inclusion, and reflective practices
• Providing awareness and access by developing a set of common tools, materials and resources
• Aligning systems to decrease stigma/bias and increase self-efficacy&resiliency
• Using common data points to measure outcomes
The Youth&Family Wellness Fair is an annual event that began in 2016. Since then, hundreds of Snohomish
County families have come together to learn more about coping with childhood mental health issues, from bullying
to symptoms of depression and anxiety. The event provides fun family activities and music to encourage healthy
family relationships,as well as workshops for parents and youth on topics such as suicide prevention, parenting
young children, building a better relationship with your teen, and infant and toddler mental health.
2019 Human Needs Contracts 7
