The Contractor shall perform IRI testing on each through lane, climbing lane,
25 and passing lane, greater than 0.25 mile in length and these lanes will be subject to
26 incentive/disincentive adjustments. Ride quality will be evaluated using the Mean
27 Roughness Index (MRI) calculated by averaging the IRI data for the left and right wheel
28 path within the section.
29
30 Ramps, shoulders and tapers will not be included in MRI testing for pavement smoothness
31 and will not be subject to incentive adjustments. All Work is subject to parallel and
32 transverse 10-foot straightedge requirements, corrective work and disincentive I
33 adjustments.
34
35 Operate the inertial profiler in accordance with AASHTO R 57. Collect two longitudinal
36 traces, one in each wheel path. Collect profile data after completion of all concrete paving
37 on the project in a continuous pass including areas excluded from pay adjustments.
38 Provide notice to the Engineer a minimum of seven calendar days prior to testing.
39
40 Within 30 calendar days after the Contractor's testing, the Engineer may perform
41 verification testing. If the verification testing shows a difference in MRI greater than the
42 percentages shown in Table 2 of AASHTO R 54 the following resolution process will be
43 followed:
44
45 1. The profiles, equipment and procedures will be evaluated to determine the cause
46 of the difference.
47
48 2. If the cause of the discrepancy cannot be resolved the pavement shall be retested
49 with both profilers at a mutually agreed time. The two profilers will test the section
5n within 30 minutes of each other. If the retest shows a difference in MRI equal or
1
City of Everett Page AM-22 Amendments
Everett Downtown Streetscape Improvement March 22, 2019
