• <br /> B. ' To provide for a method of orderly transition from the old salary, <br /> schedule to the new salary schedule , the following shall apply : <br /> I . Any employee whose base salary under a previous <br /> schedule is greater than the base salary provided in the schedule <br /> contained in this ordinance shall continue to receive the previous base <br /> pay; provided, however, that an employee working in a classification <br /> designated to be in a salary range prefaced by range number D or E <br /> shall continue to receive the previous base pay in accordance with a <br /> previous salary schedule only if the Mayor has not set the salary within <br /> the limits of salary range D and E as provided in Section 2 (c) of this <br /> ordinance . <br /> II . Any employee whose base salary falls within the <br /> appropriate salary range for his classification shall be paid at the <br /> next higher step in the range . The employee shall remain at this level <br /> until his next anniversary date, at which time he shall advance to the <br /> next higher step. <br /> III . Any employee whose base salary is less than the <br /> appropriate salary range for his classification shall receive not less <br /> than the minimum rate for his classification. The employee shall be <br /> paid the rate within the salary schedule according to tenure in the <br /> particular classification. <br /> C. Range numbers prefaced by D and E are to be considered as minimum and <br /> maximum salary ranges within which the Mayor may set the salary to be paid an <br /> employee. Employees in pay range numbers prefaced by E are appointive officers . <br /> D.
