Evergreen State
Heat & AC
A Division of Evergreen State Sheet Meta(,Ine.
Management of fresh air requirement for 4 front offices at Access Laser 2211 W. Casino RD Everett.
12/12/17
Issue: Plans call for 6CFM of fresh air per offices. Engineers noted adding a HRV. With the coring,
ductwork, electrical (using a duct heater to reheating OSA that cannot be brought up to room temp) and
cost of the equipment and install it is @$7,000 of additional cost for a very small amount of fresh air.
Running the duct heater will eliminate any energy savings by the proposed plan.
Current condition: The space is currently in an open office area and walls will be put up for the owners
office space. Space is conditioned by a RTU Gas pack with an economizer.
Proposed solution: Used existing ductwork to provide a small amount of fresh air to each office. We'll
install a damper to restrict the airflow to @50CFM to prevent the multi zone Mitsubishi (used to
independently control temperature for the offices) from too much differential changes.
Washington State Energy code
C101.3 Intent- allows flexibility for innovative approaches; and
C102.1 General allows for the local code official to determine if this is meeting the intent of the code.
The proposed solution will meet the requirements of the 6CFM per space, have no utility cost penalty and
cost the customer much less than the proposed engineered recommendation.
The existing package units on the roof are being upgraded to demand ventilation, with new economizers,
controls and the ability to drive the economizers from 0-100%. Also the new controls will run the fan
during occupied times, with data tracking 24X7.
SNOPUD has rebated the installation of the proposed Mitsubishi 4 Zone ductless.
Thank you,
Mark Payne
Energy Consultant- Evergreen State Heat&A/C
