?, X
Synopsis of electrical inspection at 2523 Chestnut that took place on 5/16/2019.
I arrived at 2523 Chestnut and as I approached the house I noticed that the house was newly painted
inside and out and I saw the apprentice. I introduced myself as the electrical inspector and asked what
work had he done. He informed me that he was just the apprentice and that Tim (the electrical
contractor and electrician) had just gone to the bathroom and said watch the inspector will probably
show up now. He then said we did the panel change in here and I followed him to the kitchen. I passed
the first bedroom and notice a newer light fixture with a pull chain hanging off of it(which is not normal
or code compliant). As I walked through the living room and into the kitchen I noticed newer white non
tamper-resistant type receptacles and no GFCI and improperly spaced receptacles serving the kitchen
new looking kitchen counter top(also not code compliant). I saw all new stainless steel appliances
including a dishwasher. I then walked over to the panel which is in the kitchen opposite the kitchen sink.
I looked at the panel checking the service conductors and circuit etc. I then asked Tim where the
dishwasher circuit is.Tim said there wasn't one. I asked Tim where the GFCI protection for the kitchen
counter receptacles was.Tim stated that he hadn't seen any either, but he didn't do any other work that
the service. I asked him who had done the other electrical work and he said he did not know. I went over
to the kitchen counter and used my GFCI plug tester and confirmed that there was no GFCI protection. I
plugged into the dishwasher receptacle and asked him to trip the small appliance circuits.Tim asked his
apprentice to do that and we confirmed that the dishwasher is on the small appliance circuit(not code
compliant). I asked him where the water bond was connected and he took me outside and showed me
the meter and ground rods and pointed to an area of the crawl space and said the water came up there
and then changes over to Pecs(a type of newer plumbing pipe) so he attached to it there. I asked how
and he explained. We went back inside as that is where I had left my backpack. I asked him where the
bathroom was and he showed me and I verified that it had a GFCI protected receptacle there.
I then explained that a plumbing permit would need to be obtained for the new Pecs piping and the new
plumbing fixtures. I then explained that though he did not do the work I was issuing corrections to the
house for the non-compliant electrical work. I went over them. The dishwasher needs a new dedicated
circuit,AFCI and tamper-resistant type receptacles for all receptacles that are newly changed out. GFCI
protection for the kitchen counter receptacles and receptacles would have to be added anywhere that
new kitchen counter top had been added. I showed him the bedroom with now wall switch as I walked
into the other bedroom I noticed that the stairs encroached on the entry. I asked Tim where they went
he said he did not know that he had not gone up there. I asked him if I could go up and he said ok I
guess. I went up and it looked like a bed room with poorly spaced receptacles.
Tim started looking at ways to get the dishwasher circuit in. He told me that he did not think he wanted
to do any more work on this house as he was very busy and the customer was very pushy. He asked me
if I wanted to call her. I said that I preferred to explain the corrections to him (he is her agent and an
industry professional)and he could explain,it to her and usually when I write up my corrections she
would read them and call me and she can call me and I would be happy to further explain the
corrections to her as well.
The electrical corrective actions needed to approve this electrical permit are;
