Plan Section 5 <br /> Description of Improvements and Details <br /> Notes for 5.1 through 5.3 <br /> Properties in this area are owned by the Port of Everett and Weyerhaeuser. The Port obtained a <br /> shoreline permit for development of its portion of the property in 1999. In addition to construction of a <br /> non-motorized watercraft haul-out on Ferry-Baker Island, the shoreline permit required that a public <br /> access corridor be reserved on the site for a period of five years. The access corridor will be opened to <br /> the general public if(1) BNSF allows public access on the bridge over its railroad and (2) the <br /> Department of Ecology allows public access on the site (the contamination on the site was cleaned up <br /> to industrial standards). If public access is allowed on the site, a 10-foot-wide asphalt trail and five <br /> associated waterfront viewpoints will be constructed. The Port also contributed $300,000 to off-site <br /> public access improvements. <br /> If the Port proposes to revise its application to allow Nonwater dependent uses on the northern portion <br /> of the site, the public access requirements will be re-opened, since the SMP requires public access for <br /> non-water dependent uses. <br /> These issues will also have to be resolved for the Weyerhaeuser-owned portion of the area. <br /> 5.1 Port Riverside Business Park Section 5.1 looking south towards Ferry-Baker <br /> Island <br /> The location of this segment of the trail <br /> depends on the type of development on Port <br /> property. <br /> The new path will be aligned along the <br /> shoreline (Alternative 5.1a if development of <br /> the Port- owned Riverside Business Park will <br /> not include water-dependent uses. <br /> i 3tt k 3a 'f� <br /> The path will follow the existing north-south road, <br /> where the existing path can be widened to 12 feet (Alternative 5.1b). Both alternatives <br /> should have access to the bridge (Segment 5.2). This will allow Section 5 trail segments to <br /> function as a viable loop trail before Sections 4 and 6 are completed. The Port access <br /> bridge would also be a good access path to this segment of shoreline from nearby <br /> neighborhoods. <br /> 5.2 Port Access Bridge <br /> The Port access bridge to Riverside Business Park <br /> has been completed for bike and pedestrian access. <br /> While access to the Riverside may be obtainable from F <br /> the north (4.8) and south (5.4), the bridge provides a <br /> key link to E.
