Section 289 . 46 .61 .910 Parking spaces to be designated'. The • <br /> ' Traffic Engineer is hereby nstructed• to have lines or marks. painted <br /> •.or 'placed upon the curb and/or. tipbn_ th•e street adjacent to each. <br /> •.` parking meter for the purpose of designating the parking space for . <br /> which said meter is to be used, and each vehicle parking alongside of • <br /> or adjacent to any parking meter shall park within the lines or <br /> markings so established. It shall be unlawful and in violation of <br /> this chapter to park any vehicle across such lines or markings or <br /> to park said vehicle in such position that the same shall not be <br /> entirely within the area designated by such lines or markings . <br /> Section 290 . 46 .61.915 Operation of meters - Overtime parking. <br /> When any vehicle shall be parked in any space alongside of or next to <br /> which a parking meter is located, it shall be the duty of the operator <br /> of said vehicle upon entering said parking space to activate the <br /> timing mechanism provided in either the automatically or manually <br /> operated parking meter by immediately depositing coin, or coins , <br /> necessary for the time desired by the said operator, and it shall be <br /> unlawful for said operator to fail to activate the parking meter <br /> immediately upon parking a vehicle in a space alongside or next to <br /> a parking meter. If a person shall allow his or her vehicle to <br /> remain parked in any such space beyond the time fixed for such <br /> parking space or beyond the period for which a coin, or coins , have <br /> been deposited, the parking meter shall display a sign or signal <br /> showing illegal parking and in that event such vehicle shall be deemed <br /> to be parked overtime and beyond the time of legal parking in any <br /> such part of the street wherein such meter is located and such act <br /> or omission shall be unlawful and a violation of the parking ordi- <br /> nance of the City of Everett. <br /> Section 291. 46 .61.920 Overtime parking - Unlawful: It shall be <br /> unlawful for any person to permit a vehicle to remain parked overtime <br /> or beyond the legal parking time established for any legal parking zone <br /> as described in the Traffic and Parking Ordinances of the City of <br /> Everett. <br /> Section 292 . 46 .61 .925 Extending parking time - Unlawful: It <br /> shall be unlawful for any person to deposit or cause to be deposited <br /> in any parking meter coin or coins for the purpose of increasing or <br /> extending the parking time of any vehicle beyond the legal parking <br /> time which has been established for a parking space adjacent to <br /> which said parking meter is placed. <br /> Section 293 . 46 .61.930 Enforcement Parking Checkers : Enforcement <br /> of parking and parking meter ordinances shall be primarily the <br /> responsibility of parking checkers or meter maids who shall be <br /> employees of the City of Everett under the direction of the Finance <br /> and Budget Director. The Police Department shall also be responsible. <br /> It shall be the duty of parking checkers to check all meters in the <br /> City on a regular basis and issue notices of violation as hereinafter <br /> provided. Said notice of violation shall be deemed served when <br /> placed in a prominent position on the windshield of any automobile <br /> found in violation of this ordinance. <br /> Section 294 . 46 .61 .935 Period of Time Parking Meter Shall Be In <br /> Operation - Parking meters shall be in operation and restrictions <br /> on parking as herein set forth and the requirements contained herein <br /> for the depositing of coins in parking meters shall be from 9 : 30 a.m. <br /> to 5: 30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, inclusive, and parking meters <br /> shall not be in operation on Sundays or on the following holidays : <br /> January 1st <br /> The day designated for observance of George Washington's Birthday <br /> July 4th <br /> The first Monday in September, to be known as Labor Day <br /> The day set aside for observance of Veteran 's Day <br /> December 25th <br /> The day designated and set aside by the President of the United <br /> States as Thanksgiving Day or such day as may by law be <br /> designated for the celebration of the above holidays . <br /> Section 295 . 46 .61 .940 Tampering with Meters - Unlawful . It shall <br /> be unlawful for any unauthorized person to deface, injure, open, <br /> tamper with or willfully break, destroy or impair the usefulness <br /> of any parking meter installed or maintained by the City of Everett. <br /> A violation of this section shall be enforced as a general penalty <br /> under this title . <br /> -47- <br />
