R.L. EVERETT
WASHINGTON
City of Everett Human Needs Grant
January 1, 2019 through December 31, 2019
Exhibit A
Program Summary
Organization &Program: Workforce Snohomish:Worksource Youth Center Food Pantry
Located at the Everett Train Station on the second floor, the WorkSource Youth Center(WSYC)provides 14-24
year olds access to career workshops, hiring events and job fairs,GED prep, and a resource room equipped with
Internet-accessible computers for job search activities, resume preparation, etc. All these services are completely
free to the Center's youth and youth adult(YYA)clients.
With the funding from The City of Everett,WFS hope to launch a pilot progam to provide snacks or meals to the
Youth Center's youth and young adult population. This program will bolster center recruitment while providing
incentive to YYA to return to the Youth Center;regular visitation will allow the Youth Center staff to build rapport
with the YYA and begin to explore what resources the center could provide to improve the individual's employment
prospects.
WFS fully expects this pilot project in increase the number of participants using,as well as the number of
individuals completing programs in,the Youth Center.
The WorkSource Youth Center Pantry will have three components;food, work, and report. The first component of
food starts with the case managers.Every two weeks,a case manager from the WSYC will go and buy
nonperishable, healthy snacks and microwaveable food items from low cost food providers. This food will be stored
in an existing shelving system and refrigerator that was donated by Workforce Snohomish. The case manager will
also ensure that all the food is in good condition and not spoiled. This will be a concentrated team effort by all three
case managers at the WorkSource Youth Center.
The second component of work ensures that participants who are interested in utilizing the pantry, must sign in
before eating. During the sign in process, the case manager will verify that the participant is utilizing the
WorkSource Youth Center for a purpose, such as working on a resume, studying, job searching,or other valid
activities. The pantry will be self-serve,with oversight from the case managers.
The third and final component of report is executed through the case managers. All sign-in sheets will be verified
and recorded at the end of the day to ensure relevant and current data. The Project Director for the center will
provide oversight for the program as well as the Workforce Snohomish Youth Initiatives Manager from Workforce
Snohomish.
In addition to the funding from the City of Everett, the Youth Center will also be looking at partnering with the
Volunteers of American food bank and the St.Vincent De Paul food bank to leverage their existing resources.
Although we understand this funding will not feed every participant,we believe this is an important start to
providing nutrition to our clients on their path forward.
2019 Human Needs Contracts 7
