Vertical Oecni.:-'s. <br /> Stairs, elevators, escalators, chutes, and other vertical open- <br /> ings shall have enclosed construction of approved masonry or <br /> reinforced concrete, or of a form of construction of noncombustible <br /> materials having a fire resistance rating of not less than two hours. <br /> When such enclosures form shafts extending from the pier deck to <br /> the roof, they shell be provided with thin-glass-in-metal-frames <br /> skylights. Door openings shall be protected by self-closing or <br /> automatic fire doors approved for the location in which they ere to <br /> be used. . <br /> Section 9. Protection e.ndSubdivision of all Superstructures. <br /> All superstructures hereinafter constructed shall comply with the <br /> following additional requirements: <br /> A. Automatic Svrinklers. <br /> All superstructures shall be provided with a complete system of <br /> automatic sprinklers, except that sprinklers shall not be required <br /> in small superstructures located over fire-resistive substructures <br /> if such superstructures do not exceed 500 square feet in individual <br /> area or if the total area of all such structures do not exceed 1, 500 <br /> square feet, or if there is a separation of at least 30 feet between <br /> any two such structures. <br /> I. All superstructures on piers having a substructure sprinkler <br /> system shall also be equipped with ,an automatic sprinkler <br /> system regardless of size. <br /> II. Sprinkler systems shall be installed in accordance with the <br /> Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems (NFPA No. 13, <br /> 1968). <br /> III. All sprinkler systems covered in this ordinance shall be <br /> equipped with a water flow alarm and connected to the City of <br /> Everett Fire Alarm system. <br /> IV. When superstructures are within 30 feet of an exposure a <br /> complete system of outside open sprinklers shall be installed on <br /> all superstructures in accordance with the Standard for the <br /> Installation of Sprinkler Systems. (NFPA No. 13, 1966)• <br /> B. First Aid Fire r'3.npliance.s, <br /> Fire extinguishers or other first aid fire appliances shall be <br /> installed, distributed, and their locations marked in accordance with <br /> the Standard for the Installation, Maintenance and Use of Portable <br /> Fire Extinguishers (N 'PA No. 10, 1968). <br /> C. Fire Walls and Fire Doors. <br /> All superstructures shall be divided by transverse fire walls at <br /> intervals not exceeding 450 feet.
