PROPOSAL TO THE CITY OF EVERETT
CLIMATE ACTION PLAN CONSULTANT
Environmental Stewardship Initiative Strategic Plan&Citywide Greenhouse
°,.rte,• e }_ " Gas Emissions Analysis I City of Bellevue, WA 2012&2017-Present
Reference: Jennifer Ewing(GHG inventory client) I (425)452-6129
CITY OF
EL
BLEVUE jewing@bellevuewa.gov
BELLEVUE
ENVIRONMENTAL
STEWARDSHIP INITIATIVE In 2012, Cascadia assisted the City of Bellevue in updating its Environmental Stewardship
STRATEGIC PLAN Initiative (ESI) Strategic Plan and reporting on successful outcomes of the Initiative to date.
2013-2018 f As part of this effort,Cascadia worked with the City to update its municipal and
community-level greenhouse gas(GHG) emissions inventory and assisted in the
development of a web-based platform for tracking other environmental indicators and
outcomes. In addition, Cascadia collected and analyzed data on current programs and
practices, used the results to identify and evaluate new opportunities for action, and
drafted content for the updated Strategic Plan.
Currently,Cascadia is working with the City to analyze trends in the city's community-wide
GHG emissions and develop recommendations for updated emissions reduction targets
and strategies. As part of this work, which was funded by a regional Department of Energy
grant,Cascadia reviewed and updated two emissions inventories for the City. Based on the
results of the analysis, Cascadia will create a Climate Action Technical Report that includes
updated emissions targets and emissions-reduction strategies for the transportation, land
use, residential and commercial property, waste, and energy sectors—to inform the next
update of their ESI strategic plan.As part of the current inventory work, Cascadia is also
providing training and support to help City staff continue to update the inventory over
time.As part of this project, Cascadia is also conducting contribution analyses for the cities
of Ashland (OR), Durham (NC), Olympia (WA), and Shoreline(WA).
({_ O Climate Action and Adaptation Plan City of Flagstaff, AZ 12017-2015
a "l"' It Reference:Jenny Niemann I (928) 213-2150 I jniemann@flagstaffaz.gov
•,Tette 1''
- 411 Cascadia recently partnered with the City of Flagstaff to develop the city's first ever Climate
Action and Adaptation Plan aimed at reducing community and municipal greenhouse gas
fi
• emissions. Unanimously adopted by City Council, the plan includes background
information on emissions trends and anticipated climate impacts, a robust list of strategies
Nik
'`` and actions to meet specified climate goals, and an action-oriented implementation
318 cLIIIATEAMA s ADAPTATION=1a: strategy for hitting the ground running. We modeled 2050 "business as usual" GHG
emissions as a basis for setting reduction targets and identified and prioritized climate
action strategies, including cost effectiveness and co-benefit considerations. Cascadia also
validated the community GHG inventory, modeled emission reduction potentials, planned
and facilitated public and stakeholder engagement events, and wrote and designed the
final plan.
C ASCADIA 14
